The Time of Darkness I 2025
Oil paint mixed with copper and metal on canvas
76.5 × 102 cm
Time of Darkness I is a work that combines traditional techniques with materials such as copper and metal, creating an intense and symbolic texture. At the center of the composition is the figure of a man, visible from the torso upward, with arms outstretched, emerging above a series of buildings. His posture conveys a sense of dominance, as if rising above the world and claiming it.
This figure symbolizes human power taken to the extreme — the ambition that exceeds natural limits and transforms the surroundings into a dark and desolate stage. The work reflects my perception of the world: a moment of imbalance, where progress and ambition have overshadowed our connection with nature and harmony.
I created this painting as a personal expression of my concerns and reflections on the current state of the world. Through the figure’s dominance and the somber environment, I wanted to explore the tension between human ambition and the fragility of life, while setting the stage for the hope and renewal depicted in the second piece of the series.
Time of Darkness I is part of a two-piece series. The second, Time of Darkness II, depicts a female figure surrounded by nature and animals, representing resilience, hope, and the effort to restore life even in the midst of darkness.
